One of the three five-star prospects who signed with LSU in the Class of 2019 has entered his name in the transfer portal. Sophomore linebacker Marcel Brooks had a conversation with the Tigers’ coaching staff on Friday morning before making the decision to enter the portal, Geaux247 is reporting.

Brooks arrived at LSU as one of the most-celebrated players in a 2019 recruiting class that was was ranked fifth nationally. The Fort Worth, Texas, native played in 11 games as a freshman and recorded eight tackles and 1.5 sacks while playing often as a pass-rush specialist.

He played well enough as a freshman to potentially position himself for a starting role this season as the Tigers replace six defensive starters from their 2019 national championship team. But LSU is undergoing a defensive coordinator switch as Bo Pelini takes over following Dave Aranda’s departure for the head job at Baylor.

If Brooks does indeed decide to transfer, there should be no shortage of interested schools. The 6-3, 205-pounder was a consensus top-100 prospect in the 2019 class. He picked LSU over offers from Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M, just to name a few.

Because of his relatively slender frame and history of playing other positions in high school, Brooks could be a candidate to change positions whenever and wherever his career resumes.
