2020 Fantasy Baseball Draft Prep: 11 players who would be helped by universal designated hitter


We’re still waiting to find out if and when the MLB season will start, but some details about what the powers that be might be considering have started to come to light. The league is looking into the possibility of playing all games in Arizona (and possibly Florida) at spring training facilities, which could have a significant impact on the offensive environment around the league — the heat and elevation in the Arizona area could cause an even further spike in home runs than we saw last season.

However, there is another proposal that could make a big impact on the Fantasy universe, too: the universal designated hitter. MLB is considering doing away with leagues entirely for the 2020 season, and that would also see the application of the DH across the game, at least for that season.

The ripple effects of that would be considerable, obviously — drop those NL pitchers down in your rankings! — but the biggest one would be the most obvious and practical: NL teams would have an additional lineup spot to play with. All of a sudden, those position battles look a lot less important, and those playing time concerns start to melt away.
