The 2020 WNBA playoffs have arrived at the semifinal stage. All the action began on Tuesday night with the single-elimination first round, and it did not disappoint. The Connecticut Sun started the evening by taking down the Chicago Sky, and in the second game of the doubleheader, Shey Peddy hit a buzzer beater to lift the Phoenix Mercury past the Washington Mystics.

On Thursday, we moved to the single-elimination second round, and the Mercury were once again involved in a close one. This time, though, they came out on the losing end, as the Minnesota Lynx escaped with an 80-79 win to advance to the semis. In the second game of the doubleheader, the Connecticut Sun upset the Los Angeles Sparks, knocking them out of the playoffs for a second straight season.

The best-of-five semifinals will begin on Sunday, with the No. 1 seed Las Vegas Aces facing the Sun, and the No. 2 seed Seattle Storm taking on the Lynx.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, there were all sorts of necessary changes, and this has been by far the most unique season in league history. Play didn’t get started until late July, and the regular season had to be shortened to 22 games. All of those games have been played on the campus of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where the league has set up its bubble environment. So far, everyone has stayed healthy, which is great news, but there’s certainly been some interesting results, and it will be interesting to see if that continues in the postseason.
