2021 Belmont Stakes predictions, bets: Expert picks for win, place, show, trifecta, superfecta

The 2021 Belmont Stakes will be the third and final leg of the Triple Crown on Saturday, June 5, and legendary trainer Bob Baffert won’t be allowed to enter any horses according to the New York Racing Association. However, newly-minted Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher could have as many as four Belmont Stakes horses in the field at Belmont Park as he seeks his fourth win in this event. Known Agenda (9-1), Promise Keeper (15-1), Bourbonic (26-1) and Overtook (30-1) all run out of Pletcher’s barn and are probable for the Belmont Stakes 2021.

However, Brad Cox’s Essential Quality is the 7-2 favorite in the 2021 Belmont Stakes odds, while Doug O’Neill’s Hot Rod Charlie is just behind him at 9-2. Rombauer (5-1) gave trainer Michael McCarthy a win in his first Triple Crown start at the Preakness Stakes but he’ll race a much tougher 2021 Belmont Stakes field on June 5. With so much to consider while making your 2021 Belmont Stakes picks, a little expert help can go a long way.

The 153rd running of the Belmont Stakes will have a purse of $1.5 million and is moving back to 1 1/2 miles after last year’s race was run at 1 1/8 miles because of the coronavirus pandemic. That was the first Belmont Stakes since 1926 that wasn’t contested at 1 1/2 miles. The added distance could favor horses like Known Agenda and Hot Rod Charlie, who are both the sons of former Belmont Stakes runner-ups.

Known Agenda is the son of Curlin, who won the 2007 Preakness Stakes and was runner-up in the 2007 Belmont Stakes, while Hot Rod Charlie is the son of Oxbow, who won the 2013 Preakness Stakes and then was runner-up in the Belmont later that year. Meanwhile, Essential Quality is a son of Tapit, who has sired three of the last seven Belmont Stakes winners. All three horses should be fresh after skipping the 2021 Preakness Stakes.

Given all the history, there’s a method to picking which horses to focus on for exacta, trifecta, and superfecta bets in a Belmont Stakes like this, and SportsLine’s Jody Demling knows what it is. He can help you make the best 2021 Belmont Stakes picks possible.

A fixture in the horse racing world who has been writing about, talking about and betting on races for years, Demling enters the Belmont Stakes 2021 after a major heater in 2020: At one point last year, he picked the winners of six straight races: the Saudi Cup, Gotham Stakes, Rebel Stakes, Louisiana Derby, Florida Derby and Belmont Stakes.

At last year’s Belmont, Demling said Tiz the Law was clearly the class of the field, and Barclay Tagg’s horse pulled away for a convincing 3 3/4-length victory. In 2018, he was all over Justify, jockey Mike Smith, and trainer Bob Baffert to make horse racing history at Belmont Park. The result: Justify became just the 13th Triple Crown winner ever, and anyone who followed Demling’s lead cashed in too.

Demling is at his best in the biggest horse races in the world. He has hit nine of the last 13 Derby-Oaks doubles at Churchill Downs. That means he held a ticket with the winners of both races all but four times in the last 13 years. He’s also called nine of the last 17 Preakness winners, keenly understanding when the Kentucky Derby winner was poised for victory or a massive upset. Anyone who has followed him is up huge. Now, he’s sharing all of his 2021 Belmont Stakes bets here.
