2021 NBA Playoffs: Clippers vs. Jazz odds, line, picks, Game 5 predictions from model on 100-66 roll

For the second series in a row, the Los Angeles Clippers have dug themselves out of a 2-0 hole and now they’ll enter Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals tied at 2-2 with the Utah Jazz. Unfortunately, the Clippers will be without star forward Kawhi Leonard (knee) for Game 5 and possibly the rest of the series. Leonard scored 31 points to help lead the Clippers to victory in Game 4 but tweaked his knee on a drive late in the fourth quarter.

Tip-off is set for 10 p.m. ET from Vivint Arena in Utah and the home team is 4-0 in this series. With Leonard out, the latest Clippers vs. Jazz odds from William Hill Sportsbook list Utah as eight-point favorites, while the over-under is set at 219.5. Why the Clippers can cover

After falling behind 2-0, the Clippers have found their rhythm offensively to level the series and Paul George has been essential during the last two games. After going 12-for-35 in the first two games, George is 21-of-44 from the floor and 10-of-20 from the 3-point line, scoring 31 points in each contest.

With Leonard out of the lineup on Wednesday, the Los Angeles offense will undoubtedly run through George but he’ll need some supplementary scoring to keep up with a pretty balanced Utah attack. Marcus Morris is coming off a 24-point performance in Game 4, while Nicolas Batum and Reggie Jackson each had 17 points in their Game 3 win. All three will need to take on bigger roles on that end of the floor if the Clippers want to secure a victory on the road.

Why the Jazz can cover

Utah scuffled during the two games in Los Angeles, but the Jazz are still in a favorable position. In addition to boasting the best win-loss record in the NBA this season, the Jazz were the league’s only team to post top-five marks in offensive rating (116.5 points per 100 possessions) and defensive rating (107.5 points allowed per 100 possessions).

Offensively, Utah has plenty of shooting, leading the NBA in 3-pointers per game (16.7), and it also put pressure on the offensive glass by grabbing 28.9 percent of its own missed shots. Donovan Mitchell has been electric in the series, averaging 37.3 points per game, and the Clippers haven’t found any answers to slow him down at this stage.

Defensively, Rudy Gobert anchors an elite group, and the Jazz led the NBA in shooting efficiency allowed this season, including a 50.4 percent clip allowed inside the 3-point arc. The Jazz are also electric at home, finishing with a blistering 31-5 in their home building during the regular season.
