2021 U.S. Open women’s odds, top picks, predictions: Tennis expert avoiding Naomi Osaka in best bets

Beginning on Aug. 30, the eyes of the tennis world, and sports world overall, will focus on New York. Specifically, the 2021 U.S. Open will take place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. Both the men’s and women’s draws have great intrigue, but the women’s side is particularly overflowing with talent and storylines. One is the top-line battle between Ashleigh Barty and Naomi Osaka.

Barty is currently the No. 1 player in the world, and she is now the betting favorite in the tournament with +350 odds at Caesars Sportsbook. Osaka was listed as the favorite until recently, and she is +450 while seeking a third U.S. Open title. Iga Swiatek and world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka are intriguing challengers at +1000. With so many legitimate contenders, you need to see the 2021 US Open picks and predictions from legendary expert Gavin Mair.

A renowned women’s tennis handicapper, Mair has cashed in huge at previous U.S. Open tournaments. He called Naomi Osaka (32-1) winning the 2018 U.S. Open and Bianca Andreescu (20-1) winning the 2019 U.S. Open. He also held a position on semifinalist Belinda Bencic (50-1) at the 2019 edition, and he nailed a +550 position on the second set of the 2021 Wimbledon final.

Now, Mair has broken down the latest U.S. Open 2021 odds and released his coveted best bets to win it all. Head to SportsLine to see them.

Top 2021 U.S. Open women’s predictions

One huge shocker: Mair doesn’t like the value of Osaka in pre-tournament betting. You don’t have to go back very long to find evidence that Osaka can win the 2021 U.S. Open. She won the 2020 edition in New York and, previous to that, Osaka was also the champion in 2018. Those two victories represent half of her major wins, and Flushing Meadows is clearly a strong environment for Osaka.

With that said, Mair doesn’t love her value at +450 when things begin in late August. She has never repeated as a grand slam champion in any event, and Osaka isn’t playing her best right now. She fell in the Round of 16 last week in Cincinnati and, prior to that, Osaka suffered an early exit in Tokyo at the 2020 Olympics. Through that lens, her price is viewed as “unattractive” for Mair, even while he believes that Osaka’s ceiling is quite high. He simply sees other values that are preferable before the tournament begins.
