Carson Wentz will lead the Colts offense on the field when they host the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1. Colts head coach Frank Reich told reporters on Wednesday that Wentz will be a full participant in Wednesday’s practice.

Wentz returned to practice three weeks ago after undergoing foot surgery on Aug. 3. After two weeks of practices, Wentz missed additional time after being placed on the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list. Despite his lack of practice participation, Wentz will make his first career start for the Colts, who traded for him during the offseason.

The six-year veteran alluded to being ready for Week 1 shortly after returning to practice. Wentz will start over second-year quarterback Jacob Eason, who beat out Sam Ehlinger in a spirited position battle during camp.

“I’m optimistic, but we’ll see how it responds,” Wentz said on Aug. 23 with regard to his Week 1 status, per WISH-TV’s Olivia Ray. “It’s gonna be up to the doctors, for sure. At the end of the day, as long as there’s nothing that I can do to injure myself and make it worse, I know I’ve played through a lot worse. But it’s gonna come down to what the doctors say.”

The 28-year-old quarterback is entering his first season with the Colts after spending his first five seasons in Philadelphia. A Pro Bowler in 2017, Wentz is hoping to bounce back in 2021 after completing a career-low 57.4% of his passes during his final year with the Eagles

The Colts have surrounded Wentz with a solid supporting cast that includes a stable of running backs in Jonathan Taylor, Nyheim Hines, Marlon Mack and Jordan Wilkins. Wentz will play behind one of the NFL‘s top offensive lines, led by 2020 Pro Bowlers Quenton Nelson and Ryan Kelly
