No. 16 BYU @ Arizona
Last Season Records: Arizona 0-5; BYU 11-1
What to Know
The BYU Cougars and the Arizona Wildcats will face off at 10:30 p.m. ET Sept. 4 on a neutral field at Allegiant Stadium to kick off their 2021 seasons. After an 11-1 record last year and a win in the Boca Raton Bowl, BYU is coming in with an eye to spark another quality season. On the other hand, coming off of an uninspired 0-5 last-season record, Arizona has set their aspirations higher this season.
A couple offensive numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: The Cougars were second best in the nation in overall offensive touchdowns, finishing the 2020 season with 68. On the other end of the spectrum, Arizona ranked sixth worst in the nation with respect to overall offensive touchdowns last season, where the squad accrued only ten. The good news for Arizona, of course, is that these forces working against them might not carry over into the new season.
BYU has the odds in their favor, so they’ll need to guard against complacency. These early season matchups can go either way as both teams get back into playing shape.
