Tre Donaldson, a four-star football and basketball prospect, announced his commitment to Auburn on Thursday on CBS Sports HQ. Donaldson, a 6-foot, 190-pounder from Tallahassee, Florida, chose the Tigers over Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Ole Miss.

Donaldson, a safety, is the No. 267-ranked prospect in the Class of 2022 according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He started at quarterback and defensive back for Florida State University School, and led his team to a 9-1 record and was named the Tallahassee Democrat Big Bend Offensive Player of the Year. He had 42 tackles and two interceptions as a safety, and threw for 1,765 yards and 15 touchdowns as a quarterback for the Seminoles, and added 702 yards and 10 scores on the ground. He is currently ranked No. 20 among safeties and is the No. 32-ranked football player in the state of Florida.

In addition to his work on the football field, Donaldson has shined as a point guard. He averaged 11 points, 3.8 assists and 3.6 rebounds points as a junior, and is ranked No. 133 in the 247Sports Composite basketball rankings

Donaldson is planning on playing both sports in college.

Here’s what 247Sports analyst Andrew Ivins wrote about Donaldson:

A gifted athlete that not only starts at both quarterback and safety for his high school, but also doubles as a legitimate high-level basketball recruit. Viewed by most Power 5 football staffs as a full-time defender given his ability to make plays in coverage and stops in the open field. Uses thicker frame to his advantage as he oftentimes arrives on scene with the intentions of leveling someone. Does a nice job of gaining depth with his read steps and then reacting to what’s going on in front of him. Posted an elite short shuttle time the spring before his senior season. Those fast-twitch muscle fibers help him close gaps in a hurry, especially when he’s asked to come down hill. Strong instincts and physical demeanor suggest that he could thrive as an in-the-box safety at the college of his choice and potentially even as a money linebacker if he continues to add mass. One of the more unique prospects in the class of 2022 given his aspirations to keep playing both football and basketball at the next level. Likely to emerge as a starter in the secondary after a few years on campus, but could be deployed early on in situational packages.
