If you’re going to take verbal swings at a favored team when you’re the underdog, it’s generally a good idea to be able to back up anything you say. By all accounts, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin couldn’t — And the Alabama Crimson Tide appeared to not let him forget it.

Before Saturday’s game between the Rebels and Crimson Tide, Lane Kiffin boasted in a pre-game interview to “Get your popcorn ready” just before kickoff in his interview with SEC on CBS sideline reporter Jamie Erdahl.

Problem was, Kiffin’s Ole Miss team quickly proved that they weren’t in the same zip code as Alabama in 2012. By halftime, they were being shut out 28-0, and they wound up being blown out 42-21.

As Alabama prepared itself to celebrate another conquest, the university’s mascot Big Al came onto the field dancing in a big bag of popcorn — No doubt taking a shot at Kiffin for writing checks the Rebels couldn’t cash.

The day had opened with such optimism and energy around Ole Miss, as the Rebels were ranked No. 12 in the nation and boasted a perfect 3-0 record. Unfortunately, Alabama was Ole Miss’ first opponent in SEC play, quickly showing that there was a world of difference between beating Louisville, Austin Peay, and Tulane and beating the defending national champions in Tuscaloosa.
