Trevor Zegras recorded what will likely be the assist of the year and one of the craziest moves an NHL player can pull off on Tuesday. What the Anaheim Ducks center did left fans and players wowed.
In the second period of the Ducks game against the Buffalo Sabres, Zegras, who was behind the net, picked up the puck with his stick and tossed it into the air and over the net. The puck had to be put in the perfect spot in order for Ducks left winger Sonny Milano to hit it into the net.
It was pulled off impeccably.
Milano, standing right in front of the net, was able to hit the puck out of the air and past Sabres goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, resulting in one of the coolest goals of the season.

The players’ reactions to the goal was priceless.
After the game, Zegras discussed the assist and gave credit to Milano. Here’s what he said, via Sportsnet:
“I was sold on the pass. Once I heard him yell ‘Michigan’ to me, I kind of wanted to get it to him … I still can’t believe it worked. I tried it a couple times and haven’t even come close. For him to whack it out of the air and keep it under the crossbar was pretty incredible … I don’t know how many guys were ready for that pass, but [Milano] definitely was.”
Milano also spoke about the unique goal, saying, “I expected him to do the Michigan by himself before I even called for it, but he wasn’t doing it so I was like ‘Michigan! Michigan!’ and he just ended up just throwing it to me.”
Now that Zegras completed a near-impossible goal, he has his sights on continuing to impress the hockey world with trick passes.
“Hopefully I can try something else, I don’t know,” he said. “I think we play in a couple days, I’ll try to think of some stuff.”
The Ducks went on to beat the Sabres 2-0.
