Denver Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was carted off the field after taking a scary hit while diving for a first down during the Broncos’ 15-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for further evaluation, but was released this morning and is now in concussion protocol.
Broncos head coach Vic Fangio told reporters on Monday he’s “relieved” that Bridgewater is doing well after the scary sequence Sunday.
“He sounded a lot better this morning than he did last night. Last night he just sounded real tired,” Fangio said, via Troy Renck of Denver7. “This morning, I just spoke to him, he sounded much better.”
While Bridgewater is on the road to recovery, Fangio said it was “probably highly unlikely he plays this week” when the Broncos take on the Las Vegas Raiders in Sin City.
Bridgewater struggled to move the ball on Sunday and completed 12 of 22 passes for 98 yards before leaving with what the team described as a head injury. He is now 7-7 as the starter for Denver this season. Drew Lock replaced him under center and completed 6 of 12 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown, and he should start in place of Bridgewater this Sunday.
The Broncos’ Week 15 loss dropped them to .500, and they are now the No. 12 seed in the AFC with the Raiders’ Monday matchup against the Cleveland Browns pending. With their postseason hopes hanging on by a thread, it looks like it will be up to Lock to keep them in contention.
