Jazz vs. Hornets odds, line: 2021 NBA picks, Dec. 20 prediction from proven computer model

After he scored 41 points against the Spurs last Wednesday, Charlotte Hornets forward Gordon Hayward has failed to scored more than 10 points in his last two starts. When Charlotte visits Utah on Monday night, the Hornets could use another top performance from the former Jazz star after they’ve lost three of their last four. Utah is looking for a win as well, after it dropped two straight games in as many nights following an impressive eight-game winning streak.

Utah is favored by 11.5 points in the latest Jazz vs. Hornets odds from Caesars Sportsbook, and the over-under is set at 237. Before entering any Hornets vs. Jazz picks, you’ll want to see the NBA predictions from the model at SportsLine.

What you need to know about the Jazz

Donovan Mitchell turned in another strong offensive performance on Saturday night, but it wasn’t enough to take down the Washington Wizards, as Utah lost, 109-103. Mitchell had 32 points and five assists, which followed another strong showing on Friday, albeit in a losing effort against the San Antonio Spurs, 128-126. Against San Antonio, Mitchell had 27 points, five rebounds and two steals to lead the Jazz.

The Jazz have been one of the league’s best teams in a couple of areas, which could pose big problems for Charlotte if the Hornets aren’t sharp on Monday. Utah has the top field-goal percentage in the NBA (48 percent), shoots and makes the most 3-pointers per game, and is the fifth-best rebounding team in the league. Bojan Bogdanovic has been excellent in support for the Jazz in recent games, and has averaged 17.5 points while hitting 48.5 percent of his threes over his last six starts.

What you need to know about the Hornets

Charlotte had been hit hard with players entering into the league’s health and safety protocols, and while many of them are back in in the rotation, they are still largely shaking off the rust. That was evident in the Hornets’ last game against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday, when they lost 137-106. Charlotte was in a tough position by the half, with the score at 69-47. The Hornets’ loss came despite a quality game from Miles Bridges, who had 26 points in addition to five boards.

Lamelo Ball had a nice return to action against Portland last Friday with 27 points, but didn’t look so hot against the Suns, when he hit just two of his 12 attempts. Something similar could be said for Terry Rozier, who scored 20 points against Dallas on December 13 after missing four games, but he’s scored just six total points in his last two games.

How to make Jazz vs. Hornets picks

The model is leaning under on the total, and it’s also generated a point-spread pick that is hitting in almost 60 percent of simulations. You can only see the pick at SportsLine.
