Who’s Playing
Nicholls State @ No. 3 Purdue
Current Records: Nicholls State 8-5; Purdue 11-1
What to Know
The #3 Purdue Boilermakers have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Nicholls State Colonels at 5 p.m. ET Dec. 29 at Mackey Arena. The Boilermakers are out to keep their seven-game home win streak alive.
Purdue entered their matchup last Monday as the heavy favorite, and they fully lived up to expectations. They were the clear victors by a 79-59 margin over the Incarnate Word Cardinals. Four players on Purdue scored in the double digits: center Zach Edey (13), guard Jaden Ivey (12), forward Trevion Williams (12), and forward Mason Gillis (10).
Meanwhile, Nicholls State got maybe a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Oregon State Beavers an easy 83-61 win. One thing holding Nicholls State back was the mediocre play of guard Pierce Spencer, who did not have his best game: he finished with only seven points on 3-for-12 shooting in his 31 minutes on the court.
Purdue’s victory lifted them to 11-1 while Nicholls State’s loss dropped them down to 8-5. In Purdue’s victory, Zach Edey had 13 points in addition to nine rebounds and Trevion Williams had 12 points along with eight boards. We’ll see if Nicholls State have a strategy for dealing with them or if they lead their team to another successful outing.
