What you need to know about Appalachian State

Appalachian State will be happy to take a step down in competition following road losses at then-No. 2 Duke and North Carolina. The Mountaineers were not particularly competitive in either game, losing both of them by at least 20 points. They trailed the Tar Heels by just eight points at halftime, but they were not able to stay within striking distance in the second half.

Senior guard Adrian Delph leads Appalachian State with 14.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. He has not received enough support from his teammates though, as he is currently the only player on the roster averaging double figures. The Mountaineers have won five of their last six home games and they have covered the spread in five of their last six conference games.

What you need to know about Louisiana

Louisiana was originally scheduled to face Loyola (New Orleans) on Dec. 20, but that game was canceled due to COVID-19. The Ragin’ Cajuns have been off since Dec. 14, when they dropped a 71-56 final on the road against then-No. 14 Houston. Their previous outing was a loss against Louisiana Tech, so they have not recorded a win since Dec. 8.

Sophomore forward Jordan Brown leads Louisiana with 14.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, while junior forward Theo Akwuba is adding 10.0 points and 8.0 rebounds. The Ragin’ Cajuns have won seven of the last nine head-to-head meetings between these teams, covering the spread in all seven victories. They have also covered the number in four of their last five trips to Appalachian State.
