With the holiday season comes more football. The NCAA is in the thick of bowl season with games being played every day the week after Christmas, and the NFL has branched out its schedule as well. We had a Week 15 Saturday night matchup between the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts, and then a Christmas doubleheader the following week. However, the league is taking a break from Saturday games in Week 17.
In fact, for the first time all season, the NFL will be playing all of its games on Sunday, with one matchup on Monday night. There’s no “Thursday Night Football” and no special Saturday matchup like we had over the past two weeks. However, that won’t be the case for the NFL’s final week of the regular season: Week 18.
With the playoff race reaching a boiling point, the NFL will flex a Saturday night doubleheader on Jan. 8. Those games have not been announced yet. The matchups will be chosen following this week’s action, and both games will certainly have massive postseason implications. The rest of the Week 18 slate will take place the next day on Sunday, including a to-be-determined prime-time game that will officially end the 2021 regular season.
