Nicholls State @ No. 3 Purdue
Current Records: Nicholls State 8-5; Purdue 11-1
What to Know
The #3 Purdue Boilermakers have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Nicholls State Colonels at 5 p.m. ET Dec. 29 at Mackey Arena. Purdue is out to keep their seven-game home win streak alive.
The Boilermakers took their matchup against the Incarnate Word Cardinals last week by a conclusive 79-59 score. Center Zach Edey and forward Trevion Williams were among the main playmakers for Purdue as the former had 13 points along with nine boards and the latter had 12 points in addition to eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Nicholls State got maybe a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Oregon State Beavers an easy 83-61 victory. One thing holding Nicholls State back was the mediocre play of guard Pierce Spencer, who did not have his best game: he played for 31 minutes but put up just seven points on 3-for-12 shooting.
Purdue is expected to win this handily, but they should have beaten the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Dec. 9 easily too and instead slipped up with a 70-68. In other words, don’t count the Colonels out just yet.
