High Point @ No. 18 Kentucky
Current Records: High Point 6-7; Kentucky 10-2
What to Know
The #18 Kentucky Wildcats will play host again and welcome the High Point Panthers to Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center, where tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET Friday. UK is out to keep their nine-game home win streak alive.
The Wildcats ended the year with a bang, routing the Missouri Tigers 83-56 on Wednesday. UK got double-digit scores from four players: forward Keion Brooks Jr. (17), guard Tyty Washington Jr. (14), forward Oscar Tshiebwe (13), and guard Sahvir Wheeler (11).
Meanwhile, High Point’s 2021 ended with an 81-68 defeat against the Michigan State Spartans on Wednesday. Guard John-Michael Wright had a pretty forgettable game, fouling out and turning the ball over four times en route to a 4-for-13, 10-point finish.
UK is the favorite in this one, with an expected 26-point margin of victory. They have been good against the spread at home while High Point has been good against the spread on the road, so something will have to give.
The Wildcats are now 10-2 while the Panthers sit at 6-7. Two numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: UK ranks 33rd in college basketball when it comes to blocked shots per game, with 5.2 on average. But High Point is even better: they enter the contest with 5.8 blocked shots per game on average, good for 15th best in college basketball. Points in the paint might be hard to come by.
