Why Alabama can cover

Alabama has won seven straight against the Bulldogs, and the underdog is 7-1 ATS in the last eight meetings. The Tide put up 536 yards in the SEC title game. QB Bryce Young threw for 421 and three TDs, and he leads an offense that ranks fourth in the nation in scoring (42.5 points per game). RB Brian Robinson Jr. rushed for 198 yards against the Bearcats in the semifinal and averages more than 5.0 yards per carry and has 1,275 and 14 TDs.

Young has the second-most TD passes in the nation (46) and ranks third in passing yards (4.503). Alabama is 25-16 against the spread in neutral-site games under coach Nick Saban (since 2007), and the defense also can handle its business. Will Anderson Jr. has been a major thorn in the side of quarterbacks, posting two more sacks against Cincinnati to give him the national lead with 17.5. The Tide have picked off 15 passes, and it got two of those off Stetson Bennett in the previous matchup.

Derion Kendrick has four of the team’s 15 interceptions.

The Bulldogs are 9-5 ATS this season, and Bennett threw for 340 yards in the SEC Championship Game. The offense averages more than 39 points (seventh in FBS) and leans slightly to the run, ranking 30th on the ground (195 yards per game) and 53rd through the air (248). Zamir White (772 yards, 10 TDs) and James Cook (652 yards, 6.1 per carry) pace the running game, and Bennett has rushed for 283 yards. The senior has 2,638 passing yards, with 27 TDs and seven interceptions, and he has been sacked just nine times all season.
