The Southern Illinois Salukis have been on the wrong side of a one-way rivalry with the Loyola Chicago Ramblers and are hoping to record their first win since Jan. 29 of last year. SIU and Loyola Chicago will face off in a Missouri Valley battle at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday at Banterra Center. The Salukis are out to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
On Tuesday, SIU wrapped up 2021 with a 75-64 victory over the Grambling Tigers. Among those leading the charge for SIU was forward Marcus Domask, who had 24 points along with seven rebounds. Domask’s performance made up for a slower matchup against the San Francisco Dons last Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Loyola Chicago didn’t have too much trouble with the Vanderbilt Commodores on the road three weeks ago as they won 69-58. The Ramblers can attribute much of their success to guard Braden Norris, who shot 6-for-8 from downtown and finished with 18 points and nine dimes.
The Salukis found themselves the reluctant recipients of an unpleasant 73-49 punch to the gut against Loyola Chicago when the two teams previously met in March. The loss knocked SIU out of the playoffs, so expect them to come at Loyola Chicago with a vengeful fire.
