Alabama vs. Georgia odds, picks: 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship prediction from top model

The No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs will try to halt their hex against the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide when the teams meet on Jan. 10 in the College Football Playoff Final. Both teams won their semifinals by more than 20 points, with Alabama beating Cincinnati 27-6 and Georgia routing Michigan 34-11.

Kickoff from Lucas Oil Stadium is set for 8 p.m. ET. Why Alabama can cover

Alabama will come in with a chip on its shoulder as an underdog against a team it dominated a month ago. The Crimson Tide amassed 536 yards, with quarterback Bryce Young throwing for 421 and three touchdowns in the rout. Wide receiver Jameson Williams had 187 of those yards and two scores, and he comes off a seven-catch performance against Cincinnati. Alabama is scoring 42.5 points per game (fourth in FBS) and averages 495 yards (sixth). The Tide convert on third down at a 52.7 percent clip (third in the nation) while opponents are converting at only 31 percent (seventh).

The underdog is 7-1 against the spread in the past eight meetings, and Alabama has won seven straight against the Bulldogs. The Tide can move the ball on the ground if the Bulldogs disrupt the pass, with Brian Robinson Jr. averaging almost 98 yards per game. He had 198 in the win against Cincinnati, averaging 7.9 per carry.

Why Georgia can cover

Georgia is 13-6 against the spread in neutral-site games under coach Kirby Smart (since 2016), who spent nine years on Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama. He helped build the Tide defense and has built an equally impressive one at Georgia. The Bulldogs lead the nation in allowing 9.5 points per game. Georgia’s defense is effective against the pass (172.2 yards per game, third in FBS) and the run (82.2, fourth).

The Bulldogs are 9-5 against the spread, and the offense has plenty of talent. Quarterback Stetson Bennett can make plays with his arm (2,638 yards, 27 TDs, seven INTs) and legs (283 rushing yards). Tight end Brock Bowers is the top receiver, and he got 10 of his 52 catches and 139 of his 846 yards this season in the December matchup against Alabama. He has scored 12 times. Running backs Zamir White (772 yards, 10 TDs) and James Cook (920 total yards, 6.1 per carry) lead a run game that averaged 195 yards per game (30th in FBS).
