An Argentine disc jockey says that he has received death threats on social media after soccer star Lionel Messi tested positive for COVID-19. On Sunday, Paris Saint-Germain confirmed that Messi and three teammates tested positive for COVID-19.

Messi had been celebrating Christmas with his family in Rosario, Argentina. On Dec. 27, Messi was photographed with DJ Fer Palacio during a performance. According to an ESPN report, Fer Palacio attended several parties in the days leading up to his interaction with Messi. Several people that interacted with Fer Palacio confirmed that they tested positive for COVID-19.

“I am (trending) on Twitter because Messi tested positive for COVID-19,” Fer Palacio said. “They (say) that I infected him. They have even called me ‘murderer.’ I have a lot of very bad (direct) messages. Yesterday, I was tested because I have to travel to Uruguay and I do not have COVID-19.”

In addition, Fer Palacio also made an attempted to clear his name as he posted his negative COVID-19 test results.

Messi is being forced to miss Paris Saint-Germain’s French Cup round of 32 matchup against Vannes on Monday due to his positive test. Once Messi has a negative test, he will be able to return to the pitch.
