Maryland @ Iowa
Current Records: Maryland 8-4; Iowa 10-3
What to Know
The Maryland Terrapins have enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they must head out on the road. Maryland and the Iowa Hawkeyes will face off in a Big Ten battle at 9:07 p.m. ET Monday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous games.
This past Thursday, the Terrapins wrapped up 2021 with an 81-67 victory over the Brown Bears. Four players on Maryland scored in the double digits: guard Eric Ayala (22), guard Fatts Russell (18), guard Hakim Hart (17), and forward Donta Scott (15). Russell hadn’t helped his team much against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks last Tuesday, so this was a nice turnaround for him.
Meanwhile, Iowa ended the year with a bang, routing the Western Illinois Leathernecks 92-71 last week. Iowa’s forward Keegan Murray did his thing and dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten boards along with three blocks.
Maryland is expected to lose this next one by 8. Those who got lucky with them against the spread this past Thursday might want to hold off on placing bets this time since the team has yet to string together back-to-back wins against the spread.
The wins brought the Terrapins up to 8-4 and the Hawkeyes to 10-3. Two stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: Maryland is stumbling into the matchup with the 45th fewest takeaways in college basketball, having accrued only 11.5 on average. To make matters even worse for Maryland, Iowa enters the contest with only 8.8 turnovers per game on average, good for fifth best in college basketball. So the cards are definitely stacked in Iowa’s favor.
