What you need to know about the Bulls

The Bulls escaped with a win this past Saturday against the Washington Wizards by the margin of a single free throw, 120-119. It was another big night for Chicago’s shooting guard Zach LaVine, who shot 7-for-12 from beyond the arc and finished with 35 points and five rebounds. LaVine is just a shade under his averages from last year’s All-Star season, but he is hitting his three-pointers at the same rate while taking fewer of them (41.9 percent).

The game-winning basket came courtesy of DeRozan who has knocked down buzzer-beaters in back-to-back games. In his most recent of three consecutive All-Star appearances during the 2017-18 season, DeRozan averaged 23 points per game, shot 45.6 percent, made just 31 percent of his threes, and grabbed 3.9 rebounds per game. This season, DeRozan is shooting 49.5 percent from the field, hitting 37.3 percent of his three-pointers and securing 5.1 rebounds while averaging 26.8 points per contest.

What you need to know about the Magic

Orlando played tough against Boston on Sunday, but couldn’t pull out the win against Boston in a 116-111 loss. Orlando did get a solid performance out of shooting guard Terrence Ross, who had 33 points and five rebounds after missing seven games (protocols). Ross had been playing well in the four games before his absence, and averaged 18 points and four rebounds per game off the bench. However, in his last game against Chicago, he scored just five points in 20 minutes of action.

The Magic will be without point guard Cole Anthony for a fifth-straight game as he continues to recover from an ankle sprain. Orlando has managed to score more than 110 points in each of its last three outings, but the Magic could definitely use Anthony’s 20 points per game back in the lineup. Orlando’s opponents have averaged 111.6 points per contest, which is the fifth-highest mark in the NBA. Also missing Monday’s game for the Magic are Jalen Suggs (thumb), Chuma Okeke (protocols) and Robin Lopez (protocols).
