The 2022 NFL playoff picture is far from set ahead of the Week 18 NFL schedule except for one postseason seed. The Green Bay Packers have wrapped up the NFC’s top spot and clinched a first-round bye, before they even take the field versus the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Despite having nothing to play for, and a chance that the Packers will rest key players like Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay is still listed as an 11-point favorite in the latest Week 18 NFL odds per Caesars Sportsbook.
Should you be that confident in a Jordan Love-led offense covering versus a feisty Lions squad? Despite having just two wins straight up on the season, Detroit is 10-6 against the spread this year. Is that enough to sway you towards the Lions when it comes to your Week 18 NFL bets? All of the Week 18 NFL lines are listed below and SportsLine’s advanced computer model has all the NFL betting advice and predictions you need to make the best Week 18 NFL picks now.
The model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, is up over $7,200 for $100 players on top-rated NFL picks since its inception six-plus years ago. The model enters Week 18 of the 2021 season on an incredible 135-96 run on top-rated NFL picks that dates back to the 2017 season.
The model also ranked in the top 10 on NFLPickWatch four of the past five years on straight-up NFL picks and beat more than 94 percent of CBS Sports Football Pick’em players four times during that span. Anyone who has followed it is way up.
Top Week 18 NFL predictions
One of the model’s strongest Week 18 NFL picks is that the Buccaneers (-8) cover the spread against the Panthers. Tampa overcame some in-game drama for a come-from-behind victory over the Jets in Week 17 while Carolina lost its sixth straight game on Sunday. These teams just met up in Week 16 in Carolina and the Bucs stomped the home team with a 32-6 victory. It was the largest margin of defeat for the Panthers all season and the largest road margin of victory for Tampa.
The Bucs still have something to play for as a win, combined with a Rams loss to San Francisco, would enable the Bucs to get the second seed in the West. That would enable Tampa to host its first two playoff games as opposed to the likelihood it hosts just one as the current No. 3 seed. Meanwhile, Carolina also has an incentive to lose as it can get as high as the No. 3 draft pick with a loss while a win could drop the team down to as low as the No. 9 spot.
The Panthers have failed to cover in each of their last six games. Sam Darnold has won just one of his last six starts, while Cam Newton has gone 0-13 over his last 13 starts for the Panthers. So, it doesn’t appear to matter who is under center for Carolina who is projected to have as many turnovers as touchdowns on Sunday. The model has the Bucs winning by 11 points and covering the eight-point spread in almost 60 percent of simulations.
Another one of its Week 18 NFL predictions: The Seahawks (+6.5) cover against the Cardinals on the road. The offense that Seahawks fans have been waiting for all year finally appeared in Week 17 as Seattle hung 51 points on the Lions. It was the third-most points in franchise history as the team also set season-highs in both total yards (497) and rushing yards (265).
Meanwhile, Arizona is coming off an impressive road victory over the Cowboys, but it’s in Arizona where the team has struggled. The Cards have lost their last four home games, both straight-up and against the spread. Arizona is just 2-5 at home ATS this year and despite having the fourth-most wins in the NFL (11), the Cardinals have the third-fewest ATS home wins this year.
Arizona’s fate for its playoff seed is out of its hands entering Week 18 as even with a win, it’s still reliant on the outcome of the Rams vs. 49ers game. Meanwhile, the Seahawks will look for a continuation of last week’s production and Russell Wilson will surely want to put on a show in what could be his final game with the team. SportsLine’s model has this as a closer game than what the spread implies and it has Arizona winning by five points. Thus, Seattle (+6.5) is projected to cover almost 60 percent of the time and simulations also say the Under (48) hits in well over 50 percent of simulations.
