What to Know
The Utah Utes are 9-3 against the Washington Huskies since January of 2016, and they’ll have a chance to extend that success Thursday. The Utes and Washington will face off in a Pac-12 battle at 9:30 p.m. ET at Jon M. Huntsman Center. The teams split their matchups last year, with Washington winning the first 83-79 at home and Utah taking the second 98-95.
The game between Utah and the Oregon Ducks on Saturday was not particularly close, with Utah falling 79-66. Despite the loss, Utah had strong showings from guard Marco Anthony, who had 14 points along with eight rebounds, and center Branden Carlson, who had 15 points in addition to six boards.
Meanwhile, the Huskies lost to the Arizona Wildcats on the road by a decisive 95-79 margin. Guard Jamal Bey had a pretty forgettable game, playing for 32 minutes but putting up just nine points on 4-for-12 shooting.
The Utes are the favorite in this one, with an expected 10-point margin of victory. They have failed bettors playing the spread in their past two games, so buyers beware.
Utah is now 8-6 while Washington sits at 5-6. A couple numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: Utah is stumbling into the matchup with the 357th fewest takeaways in college basketball, having accrued only nine on average. To make matters even worse for Utah, the Huskies enter the contest with 18.2 takeaways on average, good for 15th best in college basketball. Maybe that strength will give Washington the oomph they need to beat the odds.
