NBA DFS: Ja Morant and top DraftKings, FanDuel daily Fantasy basketball picks for Jan. 6, 2022

On Wednesday night, the Golden State Warriors lost to the Dallas Mavericks after scoring a season-low 82 points. The loss was their second in the last four games after they set their previous season low against Denver in a 89-86 loss on Dec. 28. Against the Mavericks, Stephen Curry scored just 14 points on a 5-for-24 shooting night, and he is unlikely to play tonight against the Pelicans with a quad injury. The Warriors remain one of the NBA‘s best teams, but is there a player that could present exceptional value from their lineup in Thursday’s NBA DFS player pool?

The Warriors take on the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday, who have a bottom 10 defensive rating as a team this season. Is Gary Payton II, who scored 17 points with seven rebounds and three assists off the bench in Golden State’s previous game against the Pels, worth considering? Whether or not Curry plays, the Warriors are in the second game of a road back-to-back, and Payton figures to be in line for a bigger role, even as Curry remains one of the priciest overall players on sites like DraftKings and FanDuel. Before finalizing your NBA DFS picks for Thursday, be sure to check out the NBA DFS advice, player rankings, stacks and top daily Fantasy basketball picks from SportsLine’s Mike McClure

McClure is a DFS professional with nearly $2 million in career winnings. He’s also a predictive data engineer at SportsLine who uses a powerful prediction model that simulates every minute of every game 10,000 times, taking factors like matchups, statistical trends and injuries into account.

This allows him to find the best NBA DFS values and create optimal lineups that he shares only over at SportsLine. They’re a must-see for any NBA DFS player.

On Wednesday, McClure included Pacers F/C Domantas Sabonis as one of his top NBA DFS picks on both DraftKings and FanDuel. The result: Sabonis scored 32 points with 12 rebounds and 10 assists to return 64.5 points on DraftKings and 56.4 points on FanDuel. Anybody that included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.

Now, McClure has turned his attention to the Thursday, January 6 NBA DFS slate and locked in his top daily Fantasy basketball picks. You can only see them by heading to SportsLine.

Top NBA DFS picks for Thursday, January 6

One of McClure’s top NBA DFS picks for Thursday is Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant at $9,200 on DraftKings and $10,200 on FanDuel. In his eight starts since returning from a knee sprain and a stint in the league’s health and safety protocols, Morant has averaged 27.6 points, 6.4 assists, 5.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. Morant followed up a 36-point performance against Brooklyn on Monday with a 26-point, six assist showing against Cleveland on Tuesday.

On Thursday, Memphis hosts a Detroit team that is playing the second game of a road back-to-back. The Pistons surrendered 140 points to the Charlotte Hornets in a loss on Wednesday night. In two starts against the Pistons last season, Morant averaged 24.5 points and 4.5 assists. He also hit just 4-of-15 three-pointers in those starts, but has been much better from beyond the arc this season, and has hit 40 percent of his attempts in 2021-22.

Another part of McClure’s optimal NBA DFS strategy includes rostering Suns guard Devin Booker ($8,700 on DraftKings, $8,800 on FanDuel). Booker has been producing at a consistently high level over his last five outings and has averaged 29.4 points with 6.2 rebounds, while hitting 42 percent of his three-point attempts. Booker hit half of his shots in his last start on Tuesday against New Orleans as part of a 33-point performance.

The Suns host the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday, who have lost four of their last six games and are coming off an 18-point loss to Minnesota on Monday night. Timberwolves two-guard Anthony Edwards hit nearly 65 percent of his shots in that game and finished with 28 points. Booker missed the Suns’ last game against the Clips on December 13, but in three starts against them last season, he averaged 23.3 points, with 4.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game.
