Kirk Cousins will start Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears after the Minnesota Vikings‘ quarterback was taken off of the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday.

Cousins missed Minnesota’s 37-10 loss to the Packers this past Sunday night that eliminated Minnesota from playoff contention. Backup quarterback Sean Mannion threw for 189 yards and a touchdown in place of Cousins. The loss dropped the Vikings to 7-9, the same record Minnesota compiled during the 2020 season. The Vikings will miss the playoffs for a fifth time during Mike Zimmer’s eight season as Minnesota’s coach.

Zimmer said that he expects each of his available starters to be active for Sunday’s game against the Bears, who at 6-10 have also been eliminated from playoff contention. Te Vikings won a 17-9 contest against the Bears back in Week 15 despite Cousins throwing for just 87 yards. Minnesota was led by Dalvin Cook’s 89 rushing yards and D.J. Wonnum’s three sacks of bears rookie quarterback Justin Fields

A two-time Pro Bowler, Cousins has completed 66.4% of his passes with 30 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 15 games. He is just 29 passing yards away from passing the 4,000-yard barrier for the sixth time in his career. A win on Sunday would also improve Cousins’ record as a starter to 59-59-2. It would also mark the fifth time in his career that Cousins has won at least half of his starts in a season.
