The Wichita State Shockers have enjoyed the comforts of home their last five games, but now they must head out on the road. Wichita State and the #12 Houston Cougars will face off in an American Athletic battle at noon ET on Saturday at Fertitta Center. The teams split their matchups last year, with the Cougars winning the first 70-63 at home and Wichita State taking the second 68-63.
The contest between the Shockers and the Memphis Tigers on Saturday was not a total blowout, but with Wichita State falling 82-64 at home, it was darn close to turning into one. The top scorers for Wichita State were guard Tyson Etienne (17 points) and guard Dexter Dennis (16 points).
Meanwhile, Houston didn’t have too much trouble with the South Florida Bulls on the road on Wednesday as they won 83-66. Houston can attribute much of their success to forward Josh Carlton, who posted a double-double on 30 points and 11 rebounds.
Wichita State is now 9-4 while Houston sits at 13-2. A couple numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: Wichita State has only been able to knock down 40.20% percent of their shots, which is the 26th lowest field goal percentage in college basketball. Houston’s defense has more to brag about, as they they have been holding their opponents to a field goal percentage of 37.20%, which places them ninth in college basketball.
