The New Mexico Lobos haven’t won a game against the Boise State Broncos since Dec. 4 of 2019, but they’ll be looking to end the drought on Saturday. New Mexico and Boise State will face off in a Mountain West battle at 5:30 p.m. ET at The Pit. The Broncos should still be riding high after a win, while the Lobos will be looking to get back in the win column.
A victory for New Mexico just wasn’t in the stars on Tuesday as the squad never even grasped a temporary lead. They suffered a grim 85-56 defeat to the UNLV Rebels. New Mexico’s defeat came about despite a quality game from guard KJ Jenkins, who had 26 points. Jenkins’ performance made up for a slower contest against the Utah State Aggies on Saturday. Jenkins’ points were the most he has had all year.
Meanwhile, while not quite a landslide, the matchup between Boise State and the Nevada Wolf Pack on Wednesday was still a pretty decisive one as Boise State wrapped it up with an 85-70 win on the road. Guard Marcus Shaver Jr. and guard Emmanuel Akot were among the main playmakers for the Broncos as the former had 28 points and the latter had 23 points and five assists.
The Lobos are now 7-9 while Boise State sits at 11-4. A pair of defensive numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: New Mexico is ninth worst in college basketball in points allowed per game, with 78.4 on average. Boise State’s defense has more to brag about, as they they rank 15th in college basketball when it comes to points allowed per game, with only 59 on average.
