Manchester City vs. Chelsea score: Live updates from Premier League top of the table showdown

A tasty Premier League weekend slate is highlighted by No. 1 against No. 1 as Manchester City welcome Chelsea to the Etihad on Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. ET. City enter the day with a big 10-point lead over the Blues, as Pep Guardiola’s side have won seven straight matches in all competitions. Chelsea, meanwhile, have had a dip in form, winning just one of their last five Premier League matches, though the defense has improved with just one conceded in the last three games.

This will be their second meeting of the season after City won at Chelsea in September.

We will be with you the entire way providing updates, analysis and highlights below.

Manchester City vs. Chelsea starting lineups

Man City: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Laporte, Cancelo, Rodri, De Bruyne, Foden, Bernardo Silva, Grealish, Sterling

Chelsea: Kepa, Thiago, Rudiger, Sarr, Azpilicueta, Kante, Kovacic, Alonso, Pulisic, Ziyech, Lukaku

No huge surprises in Manchester City lineup as they are close to full strength with only Mahrez away. Chelsea on the other hand start a front three of Pulisic, Ziyech and Lukaku while Mount, Hudson-Odoi, Havertz and Werner all make the bench. It’s been a long time since manager Thomas Tuchel has had the luxury of deciding which attackers he preferred, as opposed to simply picking the healthiest bunch.

Chelsea getting sloppy

On the hour mark now, and very little quality from Chelsea on both ends. City are dominating the ball, moving it around with very little trouble, and they seem like the team most likely to score first. It’s been a poor game from the Blues so far, rarely looking like a threat going forward. Expecting changes soon as City aim to go all in for the win.

Halftime

It’s 0-0 at the break. Just as we started, but City were the stronger side. Kepa denied City’s best chance, a close effort from Grealish, while Tuchel’s team haven’t even recorded a shot. Still all to play for in the second half.

40 minutes in and …

Still not even a single shot for Chelsea. They’ve got just 33 percent of the ball, they have been sloppy in their passing, and they have two yellow cards. Just a half where the Blues’ attack hasn’t done anything positive, failing when they have possession.

14′ On frame for City

A good look off a short corner sees a ball lofted into the box fro Sterling, and John Stones gets on the end of it with a leaping header, but it goes right on goal with Kepa grabbing it easily in the end. City are growing into the match a bit more now.

10′ Great look for Blues!

Lukaku gets through the backline and marches on goal with a defender in front of him, but his ball to Ziyech into the box is both poorly executed and timed, with the winger clearly offside. What a waste. That could have been a clear chance.

Opening five

Nothing doing in the first minutes of the match, and that’s to be expected as they look to get a feel for each other. Tense, nervy opening minutes with the ball rarely staying on the ground. City do earn an opening corner, but Kepa does well to snag it.
