The La Salle Explorers are 1-9 against the Rhode Island Rams since January of 2016, but they’ll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Explorers and Rhode Island will face off in an Atlantic 10 battle at 7 p.m. ET at Thomas M. Ryan Center. These two teams seek to continue their momentum from their previous wins.
After constant struggles on the road, La Salle has finally found some success away from home. They strolled past the Saint Joseph’s Hawks with points to spare on Monday, taking the matchup 75-64. La Salle got double-digit scores from four players: guard Jack Clark (21), guard Josh Nickelberry (19), forward Clifton Moore (16), and guard Khalil Brantley (10). That makes it three consecutive games in which Clifton Moore has had at least ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, the Massachusetts Minutemen typically have all the answers at home, but this past Saturday Rhode Island proved too difficult a challenge. Rhode Island had enough points to win and then some against the Minutemen, taking their contest 81-68. The Rams relied on the efforts of center Makhel Mitchell, who had 20 points along with five boards and four blocks, and guard Ishmael El-Amin, who had 16 points.
The wins brought the Explorers up to 6-8 and Rhode Island to 11-4. A pair of stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: La Salle has only been able to knock down 41.40% percent of their shots, which is the 46th lowest field goal percentage in college basketball. Rhode Island’s defense has more to brag about, as they they have been holding their opponents to a field goal percentage of 37.10%, which places them fourth in college basketball.
