A Pac-12 battle is on tap between the #16 Southern California Trojans and the Utah Utes at 6:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Jon M. Huntsman Center. The Trojans will be strutting in after a victory while Utah will be stumbling in from a defeat.
USC sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 61-58 win over the Colorado Buffaloes on Thursday. Kudos to the oddsmakers for accurately forecasting both the winner and the close margin. Four players on USC scored in the double digits: forward Chevez Goodwin (14), forward Isaiah Mobley (13), forward Max Agbonkpolo (11), and guard Boogie Ellis (11).
Meanwhile, Utah was within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap on Thursday as they fell 63-58 to the UCLA Bruins. The losing side was boosted by guard Lazar Stefanovic, who had 18 points. Stefanovic’s performance made up for a slower contest against the Arizona State Sun Devils on Monday. Stefanovic’s points were the most he has had all year.
USC is now 15-2 while the Utes sit at 8-11. Two stats to keep an eye on: The Trojans are 15th worst in college basketball in takeaways, with only 10.5 on average. Utah has experienced some struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the game with the 355th fewest takeaways in college basketball, having accrued only 9.3 on average. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
