Who’s Playing

Los Angeles @ Charlotte

Current Records: Los Angeles 24-25; Charlotte 27-22

What to Know

The Charlotte Hornets haven’t won a matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers since Jan. 5 of 2018, but they’ll be looking to end the drought Friday. The Hornets will take on Los Angeles at 7:30 p.m. ET at home. If the contest is anything like the Lakers’ 126-123 victory from their previous meeting in November of last year, the scorekeeper will be kept real busy.

Charlotte’s game against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday was close at halftime, but Charlotte turned on the heat in the second half with 87 points. Charlotte put a hurting on Indiana on the road to the tune of 158-126. The oddsmakers were on Charlotte’s side, but they didn’t give the team enough credit as the margin was unexpectedly wide. Shooting guard Kelly Oubre Jr. had a stellar game for the Hornets as he shot 10-for-15 from beyond the arc and finished with 39 points and five boards.

Meanwhile, the Lakers ended up a good deal behind the Philadelphia 76ers when they played on Thursday, losing 105-87. Los Angeles was down 88-68 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. One thing holding Los Angeles back was the mediocre play of power forward Carmelo Anthony, who did not have his best game: he finished with only nine points on 4-for-11 shooting in his 25 minutes on the court.

Charlotte’s win brought them up to 27-22 while Los Angeles’ defeat pulled them down to 24-25. A couple stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: The Hornets rank first in the league when it comes to points per game, with 114.9 on average. Less enviably, Los Angeles is fifth worst in the league in points allowed per game, with 112.2 on average. They might struggle to break 100.
