What to Know
The Pittsburgh Panthers and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons are set to square off in an ACC matchup at 7 p.m. ET Feb. 2 at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The teams split their matchups last year, with Wake Forest winning the first 76-75 at home and the Panthers taking the second 70-57.
The contest between Pitt and the Boston College Eagles on Sunday was not a total blowout, but with Pitt falling 69-56 on the road, it was darn close to turning into one. One thing holding Pitt back was the mediocre play of forward John Hugley, who did not have his best game: he played for 29 minutes but put up just nine points on 3-for-10 shooting and eight turnovers.
Meanwhile, things couldn’t have gone much worse for Wake Forest as they lost 94-72 to the Syracuse Orange this past Saturday. Guard Daivien Williamson put forth a good effort for the losing side as he shot 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and finished with 27 points.
The Panthers are the clear underdogs, so they’re hoping it’s the size of the fight that determines this one. Those playing the odds have seen things go back and forth with Pitt, who are 11-10 against the spread.
The losses put Pitt at 8-13 and Wake Forest at 17-5. Pitt is 6-6 after losses this season, Wake Forest 3-1.
