Connecticut @ St. John’s
Current Records: Connecticut 16-7; St. John’s 13-10
What to Know
A Big East battle is on tap between the St. John’s Red Storm and the #24 Connecticut Huskies at noon ET on Sunday at Madison Square Garden. St. John’s is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
The Red Storm were within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 75-69 to the Villanova Wildcats. One thing holding St. John’s back was the mediocre play of guard Julian Champagnie, who did not have his best game: he played for 31 minutes with 4-for-15 shooting.
Meanwhile, UConn was within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap on Friday as they fell 74-68 to the Xavier Musketeers. The top scorer for UConn was guard R.J. Cole (22 points).
St. John’s is now 13-10 while the Huskies sit at 16-7. A couple stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: The Red Storm rank 10th in college basketball when it comes to blocked shots per game, with 5.7 on average. But UConn is even better: they come into the contest boasting the second most blocked shots per game in college basketball at 6.5. Points in the paint might be hard to come by.
