What to Know
The St. Francis (N.Y.) Terriers are 1-4 against the Merrimack Warriors since January of 2020, but they’ll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Terriers and Merrimack will face off in a Northeast battle at 2 p.m. ET at Peter Aquilone Court. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they’ll have plenty of motivation to get the ‘W.’
The matchup between St. Francis (N.Y.) and the Bryant Bulldogs on Thursday was not a total blowout, but with St. Francis (N.Y.) falling 86-69 at home, it was darn close to turning into one. One thing holding St. Francis (N.Y.) back was the mediocre play of forward Patrick Emilien, who did not have his best game: he played for 32 minutes but put up just eight points on 2-for-11 shooting and four turnovers.
Meanwhile, Merrimack ended up a good deal behind the LIU Sharks when they played on Thursday, losing 85-74. A silver lining for the Warriors was the play of guard Mikey Watkins, who had 15 points and six assists in addition to five rebounds.
The losses put the Terriers at 10-18 and Merrimack at 13-16. Two offensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: St. Francis (N.Y.) has only been able to knock down 41.30% percent of their shots, which is the 36th lowest field goal percentage in college basketball. Merrimack has experienced some struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the game with the 350th fewest points per game in college basketball, having accrued only 61.1 on average. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
