There’s impressive baseball and then there is what happened between Ole Miss and Alcorn State on Wednesday night. Ole Miss junior Peyton Chatagnier was on first base in the second inning when he decided to get risky.
He stole first base, and then some craziness ensued:
It all ended with Chatagnier, improbably, scoring a run.
Chatagnier was seemingly picked off at first, but his journey was far from over as he barely beat the throw into second. Then, teading the situation and seeing no fielders in front of him, he felt he could make it to third.
And he was right. Alcorn State’s catcher headed to third, but Chatagnier slid into the base, with the catcher unable to make the tag. With the opposing catcher at third, Chatagnier saw his chance to head home and head home he did.
Seeing the play live, the game’s broadcasters said, “You’ll never see it again, folks,” in regards to the three swiped bags.
Chatagnier helped No. 2 Ole Miss defeat Alcorn State ,16-1. With the win, the Rebels now stand at 11-1 this season.
