Fantasy Baseball Rankings 2022: Top sleepers from model that predicted Franmil Reyes’ big year

The 2022 MLB season is back on after Major League Baseball and the MLBPA finally reached a collective bargaining agreement after tense negotiations during an MLB lockout. That means that 2022 Fantasy baseball drafts are being scheduled across the country, and with dozens of high-profile MLB free agents still on the market, keeping up can feel like a full-time job. But a reliable set of 2022 Fantasy baseball rankings can help take some of the stress out of your 2022 Fantasy baseball draft prep.

Starting pitching is always critical, and in an era where strikeouts are prevalent, it might be an effective Fantasy baseball strategy to emphasize ERA and WHIP. Walker Buehler, Corbin Burnes and Max Scherzer all had ERAs under 2.50 and WHIPs under 1.000, but are there any Fantasy baseball sleepers out there capable of entering into that rarefied air? Before going on the clock, be sure to see the 2022 Fantasy baseball cheat sheets and rankings from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Last season, SportsLine’s Projection Model identified several top Fantasy baseball sleepers, breakouts and busts, including Guardians designated hitter Franmil Reyes.

Reyes had a 2021 Fantasy baseball ADP outside the top 200 but the model predicted that he’d outperform that draft position. The result: Reyes hit 30 home runs and drove in 85 in 115 games for Cleveland and slashed .254/.324/.522 for an OPS+ of 127. Anybody who followed its advice and picked up Reyes late in their Fantasy baseball drafts received a huge power boost in their Fantasy baseball lineups.

The SportsLine model is engineered by the same people who powered projections for all three major Fantasy sites. And that same group is sharing its 2022 Fantasy baseball rankings and cheat sheets over at SportsLine, helping you find Fantasy baseball sleepers, breakouts and busts long before your competition. Their cheat sheets, available for leagues on many major sites, are updated multiple times every day.

Any time more MLB news comes out about the updated 2022 MLB schedule, free agency signings or Fantasy baseball injuries, the team at SportsLine updates its projections. Go to SportsLine now to see these proven Fantasy baseball cheat sheets.

Top 2022 Fantasy baseball sleepers

One of the 2022 Fantasy baseball sleepers the model is all over: Guardians starting pitcher Cal Quantrill. The 27-year-old came to the Indians as part of the Mike Clevinger trade in 2020 and he blossomed in a system that has an impressive penchant for developing starting pitching.

Quantrill made 40 appearances in 2021 and logged 22 starts, posting a 2.89 ERA over 149 2/3 innings while striking out 121. And while he doesn’t overwhelm with his five-pitch mix, he changes speeds effectively and uses a sinker he throws 36 percent of the time to induce plenty of grounders. That’s a big reason why the model ranks Quantrill ahead of pitchers like Burnes and Shane Bieber, who are being picked over eight rounds earlier on average.

Another sleeper that SportsLine’s Fantasy baseball rankings 2021 are extremely high on: Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford. After failing to post an OPS above .800 in his first 10 years in Major League Baseball, Crawford enjoyed a breakout season as a 34-year-old during an improbable run by the Giants.

Crawford slashed .298/.373/.522 and had career-highs in home runs (24), RBIs (90) and stolen bases (11). And the metrics would seem to indicate those numbers are sustainable, as he posted a career-high barrel rate (11.5 percent) and a career-high hard-hit contact rate (43.3 percent). That’s why the model ranks him ahead of shortstops like Corey Seager and Wander Franco who are being drafted almost 70 picks earlier on average.

How to find proven 2022 Fantasy baseball rankings

SportsLine is also high on a surprising starting pitcher who lands in the top five of its positional rankings. This player is barely going off the board in the top 100 picks, but is projected to outperform starters such as Julio Urias, Max Scherzer and Lucas Giolito. This pick could be the difference in winning your league or going home with nothing. You can only see who it is here.

So which 2022 Fantasy sleepers should you target in your upcoming drafts? Visit SportsLine now to get 2022 Fantasy baseball rankings for every single position, all from the model that called Franmil Reyes’ big season, and find out.
