One thing is apparently certain as it relates to Deshaun Watson’s future: he won’t be spending it in the AFC South division. The Texas, who are currently fielding trade offers for their former Pro Bowl quarterback, declined the Colts‘ attempt to speak with Watson, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
While the Colts won’t be trading him to a fellow AFC South team, Watson will meet with the Saints and Panthers — two NFC South division teams — on Monday night, according the CBS Sports NFL insider Josina Anderson. According to Anderson, Watson also plans to meet with more teams on Tuesday.
New Orleans went 9-8 last season, its first year without Drew Brees under center since 2005. The Panthers, following a promising 3-0 start, won just two of their final 14 games in Matt Rhule’s second season as head coach.

Watson missed the entire 2021 season after requesting a trade last offseason. During that time, he became the subject of 22 civil lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct in massage sessions and was also facing nine criminal charges. On Friday, a grand jury in Texas determined that Watson will not face charges on the criminal complaints following a police investigation into those civil lawsuits.
In 2020 (his last active season in the NFL), Watson led the NFL with 4,823 yards with 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He earned three consecutive Pro Bowl nods from 2018-20 while helping lead Houston to the playoffs in 2018-19.
The Colts are in search of a quarterback after trading Carson Wentz to the Commanders late last week. Indianapolis’ options were made more limited Monday when former Bears starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the Steelers. The free agent quarterback pool thinned even more after Teddy Bridgewater reportedly agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Dolphins.
