2022 Masters predictions, odds: Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Will Zalatoris picks from top model

The 2022 Masters begins Thursday, April 7 at Augusta National, and without a singular dominant force in the world of golf, there are dozens of players in the 2022 Masters field with a legitimate opportunity for a green jacket. Patrick Cantlay won the FedEx Cup and was the PGA Tour Player of the Year last season, but the No. 4 player in the Official World Golf Ranking still doesn’t have a major championship after turning 30 earlier this month. Cantlay was the low amateur at Augusta National in 2012 and could bring his career full circle with a win at the Masters 2022.

Cantlay is 18-1 in the 2022 Masters odds from Caesars Sportsbook, while world No. 1 Jon Rahm is the 8-1 favorite. Other 2022 Masters contenders include Collin Morikawa (12-1), Justin Thomas (12-1), Cameron Smith (16-1) and Viktor Hovland (16-1). Before locking in your 2022 Masters picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, it’s up over $8,200 on its best bets since that point, nailing tournament after tournament.

At the 2021 Open Championship, McClure’s best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot. In addition, McClure’s model was all over Jon Rahm’s (10-1) first career major championship victory at the 2021 U.S. Open. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner.

This same model has also nailed a whopping seven majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the Masters 2022 field is taking shape, SportsLine simulated the event 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected 2022 Masters leaderboard.

Model’s top 2022 Masters predictions

One huge shocker the model is calling for at the Masters 2022: McIlroy, a 20-time PGA Tour champion and one of the top favorites, stumbles at Augusta and finishes outside the top 10. McIlroy has been one of the hottest players on tour this season, securing a victory at the CJ Cup and finishing 13th or better in three of his last four starts.

McIlroy has been able to secure those positive results thanks to his length, accuracy and impressive short game. However, the four-time major champion has been unable to win the Masters, the final major needed to complete his career grand slam. Plus, McIlroy currently ranks 109th on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy percentage (56.93), 154th in greens in regulation percentage (65.63) and 116th in putting average (1.762), which could cause major trouble at Augusta. He’s not a strong pick to win it all and there are far better values in a loaded 2022 Masters field.

On the other hand, the model has taken into account Spieth’s recent resurgence. The three-time major champion and 2015 Masters winner went through a winless drought that lasted nearly four years and dropped all the way to No. 92 in the world after spending 26 weeks at No. 1 during his prime. However, he found his mojo early in 2021 and is back up to No. 15. Spieth won the Valero Texas Open last April to end the winless drought and has had three runner-up finishes since. In addition to his 2015 win at Augusta, Spieth has four other top-three finishes at the Masters and constantly appears to be a threat at Augusta National.

The model also expects Will Zalatoris to capitalize on his recent form and have a strong showing at the 2022 Masters. Zalatoris made a name for himself at Augusta National in 2021, securing a runner-up finish in his first start at the Masters. The 25-year-old has enjoyed continued success on the PGA Tour this season, recording a runner-up finish at the Farmers Insurance Open and a sixth-place finish at the American Express. He’s also proven he can play with the best players on tour, finishing in the top 10 in three of his last five starts at major championships.

How to make 2022 Masters picks

The model is also targeting three other golfers with odds of 18-1 or higher who will make surprising runs. Anyone who backs these long shots could hit it big. You can only see them here.
