The 2022 NFL Draft will begin on Thursday in Las Vegas, as general managers gamble on the future of their franchises. For the second straight year, the Jacksonville Jaguars own the No. 1 overall pick, while the Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, New York Jets and New York Giants round out the top five. The latest 2022 NFL Draft odds from Caesars Sportsbook list Travon Walker as the -220 betting favorite (risk $220 to win $100) to be selected with the first pick, while Aidan Hutchinson is the favorite to be the No. 2 selection at +170.
That’s just one of a plethora of ways you can place 2022 NFL Draft bets. Sportsbooks like Caesars are listing 2022 NFL Draft props for almost anything you can think of. Before locking in any 2022 NFL Draft prop bets of your own, you’ll want to see what SportsLine NFL expert R.J. White has to say.
CBS Sports’ Fantasy and gambling managing editor, White has delivered consistently on a high volume of picks over the long term, returning $2,542 to $100 bettors on more than 800 against-the-spread picks since the start of the 2017 NFL season. It’s no surprise, as White has cashed huge twice in the world’s most prestigious football handicapping competition, the Las Vegas SuperContest.
In his time as a CBS Sports NFL editor, White was also widely recognized as one of the nation’s premier NFL Draft experts. Every spring, he put together seven-round mock drafts read by millions, including trades he expects. No stone is left unturned in White’s draft analysis.
This is the same expert who, very early in the 2018 draft process, bet Baker Mayfield to go No. 1 overall at 25-1. He also was ahead of the Trey Lance to the 49ers prediction in 2021, giving it out at 3-1 on The Early Edge podcast.
Last season, White’s winning tickets also included Patrick Surtain Under 10.5 and Jaycee Horn Under 12.5 before both corners went in the top 10. In fact, he said of Horn, “It wouldn’t shock me for one team in the 8-12 range to fall in love with him and take him ahead of Surtain.” Horn was in fact taken one spot ahead of Surtain by Carolina in a shocker, which White recommended as a play at +750 in his selection of long-shot prop picks that also included cashing Jevon Holland as the first safety drafted at +350.
Now, he’s turned his attention to the 2022 NFL Draft and has revealed his 10 best prop bets, his six best long-shot prop plays and his 2022 NFL Mock Draft. You can only see White’s NFL Draft 2022 prop bet picks at SportsLine.
Top 2022 NFL Draft prop picks
One of the 2022 NFL Draft prop bets White recommends: Take Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner to be a top-five selection for a -120 payout. The 21-year-old is widely considered to be the best cornerback available. Gardner spent three seasons at Cincinnati and did not allow a single receiving touchdown.
Gardner made a career-high 40 tackles in 2021 and recorded three interceptions in each of his three seasons with the Bearcats. He allowed opponents to make just 13 catches for 117 yards last season en route to being named first-team All-American and American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
“We hadn’t heard much about Sauce Gardner being one of the top picks of the draft during the predraft process, which doesn’t make a ton of sense considering how hard it is to find quality cornerbacks to defend what’s become a plethora of elite receivers in the NFL,” White told SportsLine. “I could really see any team in the top five jumping on Gardner, starting at No. 2. I have Gardner going third to the Texans, and if they pass, I expect the Jets to pounce at No. 4.”
