2022 Open Championship odds, picks: Tiger Woods predictions by advanced golf model that nailed eight majors

Tiger Woods is the only golfer to hold all four major championships at the same time, as he won the U.S. Open, Open Championship, PGA Championship and the Masters in 2000-01. All of those wins are distant memories following a serious car accident in 2021 that prevented him from playing a main tour event for the rest of the year. Woods made a surprising return to competitive golf in April, making the cut at the Masters. Woods will be part of the 2022 Open Championship field starting Thursday, which will mark his third tournament of the season. He is a 60-1 long shot in the latest 2022 Open Championship odds at Caesars Sportsbook, but does he have what it takes to be one of the 2022 British Open contenders at St. Andrews? Before locking in your 2022 Open Championship picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, it’s up almost $9,600 on its best bets since that point, nailing tournament after tournament.

At the 2022 Masters, McClure’s model was all over Scottie Scheffler’s first career major championship victory heading into the weekend. The model also nailed Tiger Woods’ exact finishing position at Augusta National before the tournament started (47th). In addition, McClure’s best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright at the 2021 Open Championship, even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot.

This same model has also nailed a whopping eight majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the 2022 Open Championship field is taking shape, SportsLine simulated the event 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected 2022 Open Championship leaderboard.

Top 2022 Open Championship predictions

One huge shocker the model is calling for at the Open Championship 2022: Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 ranked player in the world and one of the top favorites, stumbles at St. Andrews and barely cracks the top five. Scheffler jumped to the top spot in the world rankings with his first three PGA Tour wins early this year before adding a green jacket at the Masters in April. He finished in a tie for eighth place in his Open Championship debut last July, earning an instant exemption for this year’s version.

Scheffler has not been strong over the past few months, only finishing inside the top 12 once in his last four tournaments. He placed outside the top 10 at the Travelers Championship before missing the cut at the Scottish Open last weekend. His recent form does not command this type of price for a major tournament, so the model recommends fading him with your 2022 Open Championship bets.

The model has also revealed where Tiger Woods will finish in the Open Championship 2022. The three-time Open champion completed the career Grand Slam at this event in 2000 before picking up a wire-to-wire win five years later. He trails only Jack Nicklaus on the all-time list of major wins.

Woods has finished inside the top 10 at the Open Championship on 10 occasions since making his debut in 1995. He missed the cut at Royal Portrush in 2019 after finishing in a tie for sixth in 2018. Woods also missed the cut when he competed at St. Andrews in 2015, shooting a 76 in the opening round and a 75 in the second round. The model just locked in its Tiger Woods British Open picks here.

How to make 2022 Open Championship picks

The model is also targeting four golfers with odds of 22-1 or longer who will make surprising runs. Anyone who backs these long shots could hit it big. You can only see them here.
