Why the Jets can cover

New York’s offense has been efficient on the ground this season. The Jets are averaging 4.7 yards per carry, a top-five mark in the NFL, and second-year running back Breece Hall is immensely talented. Hall has 1,373 total yards in 15 career games, and he is averaging 5.5 yards per carry in his career. On the outside, 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson commands a great deal of attention, and he has at least seven receptions in three straight games.

New York is also facing a Las Vegas defense that is potentially vulnerable in key categories. The Raiders are second-worst in the NFL in stopping the run, giving up 138.7 yards per game, and opponents are generating 4.5 yards per carry against Las Vegas. The Raiders are also No. 26 in the league in third-down efficiency allowed (43.1%) and No. 28 in the league in red zone efficiency allowed (65.5%). On the other side of the ball, New York has allowed fewer than 200 total yards in two straight games, and the Jets rank near the top of the league in total defense, scoring defense, passing defense, and red zone defense to this point in the 2023 season. See which team to pick here.

Why the Raiders can cover

Las Vegas has a more favorable projection on defense than offense in this matchup, but the Raiders do have star power to lean on offensively against New York. Standout running back Josh Jacobs rushed for 98 yards and two touchdowns last week, and he leads the NFL with 2,159 rushing yards since the start of the 2022 season. On the outside, six-time Pro Bowl selection Davante Adams is one of the best pass-catchers in the NFL, and he is the active NFL leader with 90 career receiving touchdowns. Adams also enters this game with a touchdown in 13 consecutive Sunday Night Football appearances, the longest streak in history, and he erupted for 13 catches, 172 yards, and two touchdowns on Sunday Night Football earlier this season.

From there, the Raiders are facing a bottom-tier New York offense, and Las Vegas has excelled at Allegiant Stadium so far in 2023. The Raiders are 3-1 at home, including three straight wins, and Las Vegas allowed only 36 total points in those three victories. From there, the Jets are dead-last in the NFL in multiple offensive categories, including offensive touchdowns (eight), yards per drive (22.2), third down efficiency (22%), first downs (119), and red zone efficiency (24%). See which team to pick here.
