The second weekend of the NCAA Tournament is getting close to the finish line, so the final two spots in the Final Four will be secured Sunday with a pair of matchups between familiar foes. Up first will be No. 1 seed Purdue taking on No. 2 seed Tennessee in the Midwest Region final before No. 4 seed Duke plays No. 11 seed NC State in the South Region final.
Purdue and Tennessee first clashed on Nov. 21 in the Maui Invitational as the Boilermakers squeaked out a 71-67 win in a game marred by 51 fouls. Both teams have evolved since then as Tennessee starting point guard Zakai Zeigler has completed his recovery from a torn ACL while Northern Colorado transfer Dalton Knecht has blossomed into an All-American. For Purdue, the supporting cast around star center Zach Edey has found its stride, helping the Boilermakers emerge as the nation’s top 3-point shooting team.
In the day’s second game, the Blue Devils and Wolfpack will decide their season series after splitting their first two meetings. Duke won the first meeting 79-64 on March 4, spoiling NC State’s Senior Day. The Wolfpack got their revenge on March 14 in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals with a 74-69 victory that helped propel NC State into the NCAA Tournament.
