North Carolina basketball recruiting: Transfer portal news, 2024 roster, recruits, targets from ACC experts

With six national titles, 21 Final Four appearances, and 42 regular season ACC championships, the North Carolina Tar Heels are without a doubt one of the premier college basketball programs in the country. The Heels are coming off yet another strong season in which they won the ACC regular season championship, earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, and made a trip to the Sweet 16. Head coach Hubert Davis will return the bulk of last year’s North Carolina basketball roster, and the Tar Heels look primed to enter the 2024-25 college basketball season as one of the top contenders to de-throne the UConn Huskies.

Davis’ most pressing need this offseason is to find a way to replace the production of Armando Bacot. The two-time All-American was one of the most productive players in college basketball history and was a physically imposing presence in the paint. Will Davis look to the high school ranks or college basketball transfer portal to replace Bacot? North Carolina basketball roster departures

While North Carolina will return R.J. Davis and the bulk of its 2023-24 roster, the Heels will still have to find a way to replace power forward/center Armando Bacot. The two-time All-American big man leaves Chapel Hill as the program’s all-time leader in rebounds, games played, and double-doubles. Bacot’s NBA Draft prospects remain unclear, but replacing his production in the front court will be a hefty task for Davis and his staff.

Another key departure for the Heels is Harrison Ingram. The 6-foot-7 forwards transferred to UNC prior to last season after spending the first two years of his career at Stanford. Ingram averaged 12.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per game for the Tar Heels in 2023-24. Ingram may still opt to return to North Carolina, but the projected second round pick has yet to make a firm announcement. Join Inside Carolina to see the latest on all of North Carolina’s roster changes

North Carolina basketball news, roster

With North Carolina returning the bulk of its roster from last year, Davis and his staff only had a handful of available scholarships to work with. That didn’t stop the Heels’ staff from signing the ninth-ranked recruiting class in the country, according to 247Sports. Thus far, UNC has added three players from the high school ranks and one player from the Transfer Portal.

The incoming talent is headlined by a pair of five-star high school signees in shooting guard Ian Jackson and small forward Drake Powell. Jackson, ranked as the No. 9 overall prospect in the country, is an explosive 6-foot-5 guard, who has the ability to be an instant impact player on the defensive end of the court. Powell, the No. 10 overall prospect in the country, is also athletic and capable of making an impact on both ends of the court from Day One in Chapel Hill. Join Inside Carolina to get the latest on all of North Carolina’s roster additions
