The Wimbledon tennis championships are off to a hot start with some huge upsets. Reigning Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova lost her opening-round match to Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, while Andrey Rublev fell to Francesco Comesana in the latter’s first ever Grand Slam match.

Other notable first-round results include world No. 1 Jannik Sinner beating Yannick Hanfmann, Carlos Alcaraz defeating Mark Lajal and women’s world No. 1 Iga Swiatek besting Sofia Kenin. Novak Djokovic also advanced out of the opening round with a 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 win over Vit Kopriva.

Andy Murray withdrew from Wimbledon’s singles competition following surgery to remove a cyst from his spine, though he intends to play doubles with his brother, Jamie Murray, in what is considered to be his final appearance at the tournament. Aryna Sabalenka also pulled out of Wimbledon singles due to shoulder surgery, cancelling her match with Emma Bektas.
