Serie A on Paramount+: Schedule, storylines and everything you need to know in the race for the Scudetto

The 2022-23 Serie A season on Paramount+ is underway and it runs through May as we expect a heated race for the Scudetto. AC Milan are the reigning champions after their incredible run to the title last season while Inter Milan and Juventus have high hopes of joining the race. Roma, under legendary manager Jose Mourinho, hope that their offseason additions will be enough to get them into the conversation as well. Napoli have started off strong under the impressive play of young Georgian forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The promoted sides are Lecce, Cremonese and Monza, and they all aim to avoid the fate of Cagliari, Genoa and Venezia, who were all relegated last season. You can catch all the action, including select games in Italian, live on Paramount+ all season long.

Storylines

1. The Milan derby

One of the most awaited clashes of the Serie A season will take place this weekend when Inter Milan will face AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina. The Rossoneri have started the year off horribly and lost the last two matches against Lazio (4-0) and Sassuolo at home (5-2). That marked the first time they ever allowed four goals in back-to-back Serie A games. Inter Milan, on the other hand, pulled off a win against Cremonese last weekend after losing at home against Empoli. The two sides already played last month when Inter Milan won the Supercoppa Italiana, 3-0.

2. Juventus need to react

In need of a response, Juventus also must change the negative trend of the past weeks. The Bianconeri lost at home against Monza and are now in a very difficult situation, also due to the fact that the team coached by Massimiliano Allegri face a 15-point deduction after the recent financial scandal. The club will appeal against the decision in federal court, but in the meantime, Juventus are not even in the top ten of the table and for this reason, they have to score as many points as possible now.

3. The Champions League race

The title race might be already over (Napoli are leading by 13 points),but the Champions League race is incredibly entertaining. There are now five teams that are fighting for the remaining three spots, without considering the Juventus case and the possible appeal. Inter Milan are now second alone with 40 points, with AC Milan, Atalanta and Lazio tied at 38 points. Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma are still close to the UCL spots and have 37 points now after losing the key match against Napoli last Sunday.
