Why Alabama can cover

The Crimson Tide have already faced a test this season, beating current No. 10 Florida 31-29 on Sept. 18. Young has passed for 1,124 yards and 15 touchdowns, with one interception. He is completing more than 72 percent of his passes and has been sacked six times. The sophomore has a huge downfield threat in Jameson Williams, who averages 24.9 yards per catch and has three touchdowns. John Metchie III leads the team with 24 catches, and tight ends Jahleel Billingsley and Cameron Latu have six touchdowns combined. Billingsley averages 21.8 yards per reception.

Alabama also averages 115.8 yards per game on the ground (21st), with three backs over 100 yards, led by Brian Robinson Jr. (208, two TDs). They will face a Rebels defense that ranks outside the nation’s top-50 in total yardage (344.7 per game, 59th), passing (208.5, 53rd) and rushing (136, 61st) and allows 20.7 points per game (50th). Meanwhile, the Tide defense is 17th in total yards allowed (283.8) and has seven takeaways, including interceptions by six different players. The Tide have scored at least 59 points in four straight meetings, winning by an average of 40.

Why the Ole Miss can cover

Ole Miss hasn’t had much success against the Tide, but the Rebels have never had a balanced offense like this. They are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight meetings in Alabama and have scored 79 points over the past two matchups. This year’s offense leads FBS in total yards (635.3 per game) and and is outscoring its opponents by 32 per contest. Ole Miss also ranks fourth in rushing, putting up 298.7 yards. The difference could be Corral, who has 997 passing yards, with nine scoring passes and no picks. He also has 158 rushing yards and five TDs.

Corral is one of three Rebels with more than 150 rushing yards, with Jerrion Ealy leading the way with 188 (6.1 per carry) and Henry Parrish Jr. right behind at 176 (7.0 per rush). Eary also is a receiving threat, and Corral has a strong rapport with big-play wideouts Dontario Drummond (339 yards, four TDs) and Jonathan Mingo (19.3 per catch, three TDs). The Tide defense has strong numbers, but Florida outgained Bama by more than 100 yards (439-331) and ran for 244. Sam Williams has four sacks for the Rebels and could make things uncomfortable for Young.
