From holding out of training camp to refusing to participate in drills, 76ers guard Ben Simmons has made his intentions of leaving Philadelphia abundantly clear. The former No. 1 pick took another step in his desired Philadelphia exit on Wednesday, listing his New Jersey mansion on numerous public real estate websites.
Simmons’ Moorestown, New Jersey home has five bedrooms, six bathrooms, 10,477 square feet and an asking price of $5 million. It’s located 23 miles from the Wells Fargo Center, a venue Simmons hopes he doesn’t have to visit for much longer.
According to the Trulia listing, Simmons’ home is located at the end of a cul-de-sac and features amenities such as a fireplace, custom cabinetry, white oak hardwood floors along with a wet and dry bar. The home also has an “oversized” movie room, a “massive” fish tank and a private gaming room with its own full-service bar, bathroom and candy room. Simmons kept the home relatively free of personal touches, aside from a custom neon sign featuring his gamertag (Simmo the Savage) and a hallway with framed magazine covers and his jerseys.
Per Trulia, the home sold for less than half its current asking price ($2,275,000) in Nov. 2019.
This isn’t Simmons’ first foray into the real estate market this summer. In July, right as the 76ers opened trade talks involving the three-time All-Star, Simmons spent $17.5 million on a brand-new farmhouse just outside Los Angeles in Hidden Hills, California.
After those initial trade talks stalled, Simmons threatened to hold out from the 76ers and held true to his word — at first — by skipping the team’s training camp and first two preseason games. But on Oct. 11, after incurring too many fines for his liking, Simmons returned to Philadelphia.
Simmons’ return proved to be more in body than mind, however, as he was disengaged enough for coach Doc Rivers to call him a “distraction” and throw him out of practice Tuesday. Philadelphia then gave Simmons a one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team.
The 76ers opened their season with a road win against the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday. Simmons’ suspension barred him from the contest, giving him all the time he needs to update his real estate listings.
